In the Reverse Osmosis Water System, water is pumped through a thin synthetic membrane with pores large enough for water molecules to pass through but too small for larger polluting molecules to pass. The water on the other side of the membrane is thus purified while the pollutants are trapped by the membrance.

This process is not only tedious (it takes several hours to produce one gallon of water) but also wasteful as between 3-10 gallons of tap water are needed to produce 1 gallon of purified water (with the remainder drained away). Reverse Osmosis also removes big molecules minerals such as Calcium, Magnesium, Sodium, Potassium, etc. that are necessary for maintaining good health.

Reverse Osmosis Water is Acidic.

The water to be purified is passed through layers of filters to remove the impurities and harmful substances. Activated carbon and resins are usually used to remove most of the dissolved minerals.

After a short period of use, the filter elements tend to breed bacteria and fungi that proliferate and are carried in the water. Thus, there is a serious threat of bacterial and fungal growth in filter cartridges that are not replaced regularly.
Water pH is not improved. In fact, water pH tends to get more acidic as the carbon filter wears off.
